Sisters of Harmony | Remastered by Vexx3 Sisters of Harmony | Remastered by Vexx3
Been wanting to edit this wallpaper for a while as I couldn't stand how blurry and yellowed it was.

EDIT: Fixed a brush error.

Totally awesome vector! I simply love this piece of work! The division may need a little work, but thats not really that noticeable, maybe you could make the mountains flow smoothly through the picture. The backgrounds and sparkle effects are really good too! On Luna's side, its probably my favorite with the space effects and lunar referencing. On Celestia's side, the field is really nice as well as the golden morning glow effect. And of course, who can't love the princesses? Overall, really good picture, great effects, and great color! Will there be more like this in the future?

I'm gonna get the bad stuff outta the way first. The background seems a bit grainy, and the princess' colors are a little dull. I think Celestia should be a little brighter and her mane colors a little more pronounced. Luna's blues should also be a little more bold, and more stars in the mane would be nice.

As for everything else, I love it! I love the backgrounds you chose for each pony. The golden fields and beautiful sunset for Celestia, and the dark, mysterious landscape with the nebulae/galaxy/aurora borealis in the sky for Luna. I also love the curls and such that you put in their manes. I'm a sucker for swirly things.

And I just figured out that Luna's landscape is supposed to be the moon. That would explain the star visibility and Celestia's frizzy mane. If I had done it, Celestia would be looking over Canterlot/Equestria, representing the pressures of having to look after an entire nation AND having her only sibling corrupted by dark forces and banished in the moon seemingly forever. But I can see why you did it that way too; that landscape makes her seem lonely now that her sister's gone.

Bah, this time 'round Ah have no idea from which side to "bite" this piece, so Ah cannot submit a critique, sorry.
Ah will say this though - it's a very nice pic; the background especially works well with their respective princesses (the field on Celestia's half seems a bit too "life-like" by comparisson with everything else). The lighting adds the right feeling to the whole.
Kudos.

It is a great idea for a wallpaper, but I actually think the old version is better. I am not really capable of giving a definitive answer on what (or how) makes it better, but still you might want to consider the following things:
- First thing that really stands out is how the background images are somewhat photo-realistic while the vector drawing obviously cartoony. Adding blur in the previous version made it all look better because the photo-realistic element was lost but the general idea of sunny and dark planes remained.
- The vector drawing of two princesses is somewhat washed out, making it less 'visible' - in overall composition it almost feels like the background image is far more important than the princesses themselves. Personally I would prefer to have the vector drawing stand out much more (be vivid or even outlined perhaps) and the background images be more faded and washed out.

Aaaaaah, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for an actual critique on my work!

I can see what you mean about the cartoony-looking vector versus the photo-realistic background. That was the reason I desaturated the vector a little and added a texture. I was hoping it would help the vector fit better with the background.

I also thought that the shine on the vector did well enough to draw the eye to the middle, though, it probably would have been a good idea to desaturate the background too.

Welp, that is not the response I was expecting, usually people say "I totally meant to do that" and never really care.
The texture does help and definitely should stay, however I fear it is just not enough, it probably needs something more drastic. One thing comes to mind and that is to apply some kind of shadow underneath it but that is just an easy way out and most likely won't fit the image.

After giving it a bit more thought there are few additional things that might be worth considering:
- the flare in the middle is also a very nice touch, but by adding it some details on the vector drawing are lost (mostly color, nothing major). I wonder if it would be possible to split the princesses a part and add the flare between them so at one hand it could be much brighter and on the other do not cover the vector drawing.
- finally, this is something minor, but would it be possible to give something more visible to the Luna's part of the background? It just looks like a generic space background and ideally it could be the same background as Celestia's one but clearly at night.

"Welp, that is not the response I was expecting, usually people say "I totally meant to do that" and never really care."
Sadly, that is usually the case. A lot of people don't seem to realize that critique is meant to help them improve. And, since I'm planning on making a career out of graphic design, I can use all the help I can get.

"The texture does help and definitely should stay, however I fear it is just not enough, it probably needs something more drastic."
I did greatly lower the opacity of the texture layer. Perhaps raising the opacity might help? I do think just adding a shadow is not the greatest solution, but I'm not too sure what else could be done.

"the flare in the middle is also a very nice touch, but by adding it some details on the vector drawing are lost (mostly color, nothing major). I wonder if it would be possible to split the princesses a part and add the flare between them so at one hand it could be much brighter and on the other do not cover the vector drawing."
I think the loss of color is due to me desaturating the vector to give it less of a cartoonish look. I'll play around with the hue/saturation/lightness sliders to see if I can get a better compromise. Unfortunately, splitting the vectors wouldn't be possible for me as I don't currently have a vectoring program and, even if I did, I don't have any vectoring experience.

"finally, this is something minor, but would it be possible to give something more visible to the Luna's part of the background? It just looks like a generic space background and ideally it could be the same background as Celestia's one but clearly at night."
I see what you mean. I'll try and lighten it up a bit.
